Abstract
Fatigue is a form of failure that occurs in structures that happen in dynamic and fluctuating stresses, as a result of working environmental conditions in the industry that do not pay much attention to component parts that can fail, in many cases causing work accidents due to the failure of a material. With the availability of testing tools that already exist and are easily obtained,
prevention of a component failure can be avoided by fatigue testing tools that can overcome the fatigue life of a material, the results of this study will also be useful for Politeknik Kotabaru students and lecturers in understanding shaft testing materials. The test results of the tool show good results, using the ASTM E466 standard on the three specimens that has been tested, it can be
seen in the number of cycles using a rotational sensor which immediately appears on the screen monitor by providing 3 types of loading with the results on third specimen with the lowest cycles on the fatigue test load of 22 kgf was 9418 cycles, while the most number of cycles occurred in the fatigue test on the first specimen with a fatigue test load of 14 kgf of 348677 cycles. The condition of the material and the resistance of the material have a very close relationship. Each additional load on the test specimen will shorten the cycle or fatigue resistance of the material. The addition of the load means that it also increases the stress on the specimen, the safe limit of the load can be known from calculations and tests (S-N curve) under a load of 14 kgf or a stress of 273.27 MPa.
